		<description><![CDATA[I enjoyed reading your article on freshman orientation. I only have one session with the freshman (about 45 mins.) and have always brought classes into the library to learn about in-house resources, rules, etc. However, this year I wanted to do something very different. I took classes to the computer lab so that I could show them some of the great online resources available to them. I started with a great photo about getting information from the web, a quick fun 2 min. power-pt. into, then showed them a LibGuide I had created for their orientation (2011/Online Library Orientation/Freshman) (http://maldencatholic.libguides.com/content.php?pid=275797) I am also creating/finishing a web evaluation tutorial created using Adobe Captivate 5.5. some of the freshman will be testing it for me after the holidays.) I think that this year&#039;s classes were more successful and the students actually listened and learned so much. Of course I had way too much to talk about - but I figured it was best to do more than less. At least I was able to touch on a lot of topics they knew nothing about. I&#039;m glad you mentioned their genuine interest in gathering teacher and student feedback. I think one of the things that made their initiatives so successful was their continual attention to keeping everyone in the loop and really striving to keep best learning practices at the forefront of every decision.  I sometimes wish that we could take the model that Don and Rob created at Central and box it up for other schools.]]></description>
